Federal Health/Medical ESF Code: TH-1500.1800-300 Federal government departments and agencies that have primary responsibility for or a support role in for providing supplemental assistance to state and local governments to help them meet the health and medical needs of victims in an incident of national significance (ESF #8). Activities may include health and medical needs assessment; health surveillance support; disaster medical assistance teams to provide care for ill or injured victims at the disaster site; health and medical equipment and supplies including pharmaceuticals, biologic products and blood and blood products; patient evaluation; in-hospital medical care for seriously ill or injured patients from the affected area; food, drug and medical device safety assurance; radiological, biological and chemical hazards assessment; mental health support; public health information; vector control; assessment of potable water, wastewater and solid waste disposal issues; and victim identification/mortuary services.
