Description:

Metropolitan Ministries' of mission is to care for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in our community through services that alleviate suffering, promote dignity and instill self-sufficiency as an expression of the ongoing ministry of Jesus Christ. Metropolitan Ministries serves all who are in need and does not proselytize. Following are the services MM provides: Outreach and Prevention Services which include food, clothing and coordinated referrals to community resources; emergency housing and transitional housing with supportive services for families and single women and affordable housing with supportive services. Supportive services include case management, employment services, housing services, counseling, child care, educational services (GED and K-5 partnership school) and overall access to community resources.

Eligibility:

Once a family has been referred through the Coordinated Intake and Assessment System, Metropolitan Ministries will accept and place clients that meet the following conditions into Emergency and/or Bridge Housing as applicable:

1. Provides proper identification, including documentation of Hillsborough County residency; and
2. All adult members (age 18 or older) of the client's household must submit to a criminal history check in accordance with Metropolitan Ministries policies, then in effect. Clients will be rejected for felony convictions defined as violent crimes in the past 10 years and /or designation as or required to be registered as a sex offender, sexual predator, or sexually violent predator, as defined by Florida Statutes Sections 943.0435, 755.21 and 394.912, respectively. Metropolitan Ministries Background Check Policy & Procedure; and
4. Possess income level appropriate to support family housing needs or be motivated and able to gain employment to reach income level needed. Exceptions will be made for clients deemed eligible for the UpLift U transitional on-site program which does not require income.
5. Metropolitan Ministries shall evaluate clients with a history of mental illness or substance abuse, not currently in treatment and make a referral for services as necessary.

Clients who may not meet the conditions 1 through 4 above, but are working and/or work ready and receptive to home visitation case management may be placed in an apartment located in University Community Area, inspected and approved by Metropolitan Ministries and Hillsborough County prior to occupancy.

Targeted Population - A family (two parent families or single-parent families, both male and female) or a single woman meeting the HUD definition of homeless.
